Hello again, fellow Buzzers! Many companies in the world today understand that they need to make an attempt at digital marketing. Traditional forms of media are seen as some what dull and boring by today’s technological standards. If a company decides to only sink money into radio and television in today’s marketplace, they really don’t have a clue how to launch a successful marketing campaign. There are an abundance of companies out there who have a voice on various social media platforms. There are handfuls of companies out there who even handle their social media platforms well. But, when it comes down to it, no other company seems to have a grasp on social media and digital marketing quite like Starbucks.

When it comes to coffee, Starbucks reigns supreme. There are other rivals out there such as Dunkin Donuts, but Starbucks still holds the top spot in the eyes of most. One of the reasons why Starbucks is so successful, is because they make a habit of giving more to their customers than just hot, strong coffee…they give them a relationship. Starbucks really cares about their customers, and they make it obvious. A lot of companies can be found on various forms of social media, but Starbucks can be found on each of the Big 6 social medial platforms including, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and YouTube. Aside from being especially active on Facebook and Twitter, Starbucks has implemented one of most creative and consumer friendly websites ever. The website is called “My Starbucks Idea”, and it is nothing short of incredible. My Starbucks idea is in addition to their regular company website. The website allows consumers to share any of their thoughts, ideas, or opinions with the Starbucks company. Customers can talk about experiences, can discuss potential drink ideas,  and can even suggest ideas to improve service or ambiance in any of their locations. Starbucks has  built a tremendously strong online community, and just keeps proving time and time again why their company has such a strong and powerful brand.

  1. My Starbuck Idea seems to be a great platform! While I am not a big coffee fan, but I do often pick up sandwiches which are great (tad bit expensive, though!). It is so important to hear from customers to enhance services / products. I love the idea of categorizing idea inputs – product idea, experience idea, involvement idea. Very very interesting! I might consider adding an idea on the improvement of Chai Latte – lol!

  2. Starbucks is a great example of what to do with digital media. Their app is probably one of the best ways to do an app–it serves a purpose different from the mobile site, and encourages customers to remain loyal. The brand also has incorporated social components to their traditional marketing campaigns, which is critical for IMC.
